Cooker hood repair

Cooker hood repairA range hood is a fairly important appliance in the kitchen that allows you to cook and not worry that the whole room will be in smoke and burning. Therefore, an inoperative hood brings inconvenience and requires quick repair. Hoods are very diverse, but the malfunctions are the same for everyone.

Here are some common exhaust hood malfunctions we have encountered:

If the engine and backlight do not work, most likely a problem in the power of the hood. It is necessary to check the machines in the electrical panel and the voltage in the power outlet.

If everything is in order, the power at the hood terminals is checked, the cord or plug may be defective.

There are retractable hoods that turn on if you extend the bottom of them. In this case, the limit switch may not work, it must be adjusted.

If the backlight works and the engine does not turn on. Most likely, the problem is in the button block, very often the common contact on the first button burns out, as a result, not one of the speeds works. The problem is solved by replacing the button block or by soldering the burned contact. The figure shows the soldered contact, to strengthen it, a stripped thin multi-wire wire is soldered.

Also, the cause may be loose wires or loss of contact in the connectors due to vibration. You can try to distort all the connectors.

Hood malfunctions

If the engine mumbles but does not start. The fuse in the motor winding may have blown. Often it is ceramic and is located directly in the engine housing, in order to get to it, you need to completely disassemble the engine.

To check the fuse, ring the motor windings. Regardless of the type of switching on, at least two windings should be called - operating and starting.

There can be more windings, they are needed for switching speeds.

If the windings are working, then the problem is a non-working capacitor, which is needed to start the engine. If the capacitor is swollen, then it is definitely not working, if not, then it is checked using a multimeter.

The backlight does not work. First you need to try to put new lamps and see their type. If there are incandescent lamps, most likely the problem is in the backlight button. If there are halogen lamps, then in the hood, you need to look for a blown transformer.

If there are fluorescent lamps, then the ballast may be malfunctioning. Regardless of the type of lamp, contact in the cartridge often disappears or the button breaks.

One of the speeds does not work. With a high degree of probability, the problem is in the button, perhaps the track on the board also burned out. Sometimes switching speeds is provided by the inclusion of a balancing capacitor in the motor winding circuit. Failure of this capacitor can lead to similar problems.

The engine in the hood burns out very rarely, if this happened, then repairing the hood is not advisable, since the cost of the engine is about half the cost of the hood. All other faults are identified and eliminated relatively easily.
