Safety precautions when using false ceilings

In an effort to give the interior a modern unique style, it is important to remember that whether it is a public, office or residential building, it should be not only comfortable and cozy, but also safe. All interior elements, including suspended ceilings, must be safe.

At first glance, the suspended ceiling seems a priori safe, but it is only at first glance. Let's figure out what to look for when installing suspended ceilings, so that their subsequent operation is safe for us.

Safety precautions when using false ceilings

Secure mount

First of all, the ceiling mount must be reliable. Elements of the frame are installed strictly horizontally, according to the marks, in accordance with the design documentation. First, marking is made, the angle of the cladding plane is set, it is important that the joints of the panels correspond to the design, and at the joints the sheets would not sag or vibrate, that is, they would hold tight.

Pay attention to the fact that the suspension system has a reliable system of fastening joints, which ensures a reliable position of the ceiling under both dynamic and static loads.

Fire safety false ceilings

Fire safety

As with any coating, fire safety is very important for suspended ceilings. There are regulated requirements according to which, in the early stages of a fire, panels should not contribute to the smoke and flame spread. For this reason, the materials must comply with the standard B-s1, d0 (Class I surface lining) according to the European classification. Thus, the suspended ceiling can withstand temperatures of 300 ° C and will not collapse at an early stage of the fire.

If the suspended ceiling meets the fire safety requirements, then the coating will prevent the ignition of materials located in the inter-ceiling space, and the spread of fire will be slowed down. Coatings classified as fire resistant comply with NT FIRE 003 class - fire resistant coatings. According to GOST 30403, with fire hazard class K0, the fire resistance of the coating should not be lower than EI-15.

The fire resistance limit is the time in minutes, after which the structure begins to collapse from the moment of the fire, or the temperature on the opposite side of the fire reaches 220 ° C. This is the temperature at which some organic materials can easily ignite.

When installing a suspended ceiling in a wooden building, additional measures should be taken to prevent fire, for example, in the space above the suspended ceiling, install a layer of corrugated metal sheets.

According to SNiP 2.01.02-85, all communications in the inter-ceiling space must be made of non-combustible materials, this applies in particular to hoses and pipes. Open apertures in a false ceiling design are not permitted.

Electrical safety of false ceilings

electrical safety

PUE requirements apply to suspended ceilings, and if the wire line behind the suspended ceiling is made with a cable that is laid along the metal structures of the suspension system, then at the beginning and at the end of the wire line, near the first and last lamps, it is necessary to connect the metal structure of the ceiling to protective earth conductor PE this electric line.

Even before the installation process begins, it is important to consider that in a damp room, metal structures associated with electricity are not safe to install in principle. For this reason, if the room is regularly increased humidity, it is better to abandon the idea of installing a suspended ceiling in it.

When installing wiring to power the lighting on a suspended ceiling, use dielectric fittings for the lamps, so that in the event of a breakdown on the metal elements of the ceiling, dangerous voltage is definitely not hit. Carry out the installation carefully, and it is best to place the wires in special dielectric pipes or corrugations.

The best choice for ensuring the safety of ceiling lighting systems - low voltage power. It can be lamps designed for 12-24 volts or LEDs, especially true for bathrooms.

Ecological safety of false ceilings

Environmental Safety

Even at the stage of choosing a ceiling coating, pay attention to its material. Does it contain harmful components? Poor components, such as asbestos, accumulate in the lungs of people, settling there for many years, harming health. Check out the certificates for the products you choose. An environmentally friendly suspended ceiling will only have to be periodically cleaned of dust settling on the structure.

Organoleptic and sanitary-hygienic indicators must necessarily comply with sanitary-hygienic requirements, this should be reflected in the relevant sanitary and epidemiological conclusions.

Safety of false ceilings - a matter requiring special attention. A person must feel protected, and for this he must be sure that everything is done in the highest degree safe, that all regulations are followed, and protective measures are taken. We hope that this short article will allow you to choose and mount the suspended ceiling correctly, whether it comes to repairs in the office or at home.
