Cable lighting systems for your home

Cable lighting systems for your homeWhen we hear the phrase "track lighting", we most often imagine large, bulky and ugly metal paths cluttering up the room.

Such a purely negative view of track lighting is erroneous, since, at present, manufacturers of this type of lighting equipment produce hundreds of decorative track systems. They allow designers to correctly organize lighting in complex interiors and get both general lighting and additional interior lighting. Thanks to this, track systems are most often a very economical option for lighting rooms.

There are several options for installing track lighting systems - on one and two suspensions of various shapes, on a monorail, busbar, track lights on separate brackets. One of the new options is the use of special cable systems. We will talk about them in this article.

Cable lighting systems consist of two parallel cables stretched between the walls, which are very easy to install, i.e. unlike classical track systems, here the supporting elements (in our case, the cable) are not attached to the ceiling. The cable is usually fixed horizontally on opposite walls of the room, although there are options for the vertical location of the cable.

Between the cables are suspended luminaires with low-voltage lamps that can be moved along the entire route (in conventional track systems, luminaires are usually fixed in place).

Some fixtures have the ability to change the angle of light by 180about. Due to this, the light can be directed both to the floor and to the ceiling, which makes it easy to change the lighting scheme during operation and switch from directional light to reflected light and vice versa.

A voltage of 12 V is supplied to the cable through special step-down transformer. It is very important not to exceed the maximum permissible distance between fixtures and transformers. Thanks to using low voltage supply, such lighting systems are completely safe in operation and allow you to use the entire rich assortment of high-quality low-voltage lamps.

By type of lamp, the choice needs to be made between halogen and LED lights. Both those and other lamps have their own advantages and disadvantages, so the result of choosing light sources depends entirely on the personal preferences of customers. At high suspension heights, it is necessary to use larger and more powerful lamps.

Cable lighting systems allow you to illuminate the interior in rooms where it is not possible to use the ceiling for fixtures (for example, rooms with high or multi-level ceilings, beams, engineering communications) or in the presence of a ceiling skylight.

Cable lighting system in the kitchen

This type of lighting is convenient to use when lighting a kitchen island, which is usually located in the center of the kitchen, to illuminate paintings in the absence of the ability to make built-in lamps for this. Cable lighting systems are more flexible and offer more options than conventional fixed track systems.

A very interesting option is the use of cable lighting systems in small rooms, where there is no possibility to use the fixtures built into the ceiling, in rooms with a design in the style of minimalism or loft. The goal here is to create lighting with weightless lamps without support, which practically “float” in space.

Most cable systems can be stretched to a distance of 12 meters. For longer distances, it is necessary to provide additional support elements for fastening the cable. To do this, find two additional points in the room to which the cables must be firmly fixed. In rooms with very high ceilings, it is possible to use simultaneously two or even three cable lighting systems, suspended at different levels.

To be honest, I have never heard of such a lighting system, but even a professional can see that it is worth it to install in your home. For example, I would definitely install one in the kitchen if I could. There will be a repair soon, I will certainly invite an electrician and make myself such a gift.
