How to choose a chipper

For laying hidden communications in the room, in particular wiring, it is often necessary to make a groove in the wall, or, to put it more closely to the topic, choose a strobe. This process is conveniently carried out using a tool specially designed for this purpose - a chipper.

The shtroborez is similar to a grinder and at the same time like a hand-held circular saw, however, cutting is done here with two diamond blades with the ability to adjust both the depth of cut and its width. The result is an even stroba, a groove with perfectly even side walls, which can hardly be achieved using a grinder, and the working time is halved compared to a grinder, because two cutting discs work simultaneously with a stroborez.

How to choose a chipper if it is necessary to carry out the appropriate work? The fact is that various works (in scale and volume) require an individual approach to them, because there are professional wall chasers and household ones, and the difference in price of these devices reaches 10 times.

If a chamfer is needed for homework, an inexpensive tool is suitable, if large-scale installation works are planned, it makes sense to purchase a more professional device, which will cost much more.

First of all, we note that for sale there are wall chippers of different capacities:

• low power - from 0.9 to 1.3 kW;

• average power - from 1.3 to 2 kW;

• high power - from 2 to 2.5 kW.

Inexpensive low-power shtroborez suitable for domestic work. In the process of using such a device, it is important not to allow it to overheat, and regularly take breaks in operation. This is the drawback of low-power models - you won’t be able to work continuously, especially if you need to do extensive work for a limited time.

It is already possible to work longer with a medium power shredder, which means it is suitable for professional use, and not just for domestic needs. Such a chamfer will be heated less and more slowly, this is its advantage over low-power options.

Powerful wall chasers are used by construction organizations that need to perform regular, very large volumes of work. A powerful shtroborez allows to make shtrobov with a depth of 90 - 100 mm, and its diamond disks have a diameter of 230 mm and even more. This is a professional and much more expensive tool.

When the tool power is determined, the following characteristics should be evaluated:

• What is the maximum depth of chipping - what is the diameter of the diamond blades used? The larger the diameter of the discs, the deeper the groove can be cut. Diameters are usually available - from 110 mm to 355 mm, and the depth of the gating - up to 100 mm.

• How wide can I make a cut? Depending on the purpose of the application — only the electrical wiring or, probably, the pipeline — different cutting widths are needed for different purposes. Usually, this parameter can reach 60 mm or more.

• Disks can be installed not only perpendicularly, but also at an angle to the work surface. Pay attention to this option.

Here are some other important noteworthy options:

• The idle speed is of great importance. Usually, it ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 rpm, and the higher this speed, the easier it is to cut.

• The more powerful the chipper, the more difficult it is. Despite this seemingly obvious connection, pay attention to the weight of the tool, because the lighter the tool, the less fatigue the worker.

• Pay attention to the material of the shtroboreza case.The stronger the protective cover, the more reliable the safety in emergency situations, if, for example, the disk breaks, the cover must withstand this shock. The very case of the device must reliably protect its electrical elements from dust, which inevitably arises during operation.

In order for the tool to last long and efficiently, additional options are provided, which, however, are not found on all models:

• The slip clutch will provide a uniform load on the stroborez engine.

• The optimal mode of operation can be selected by adjusting the number of revolutions of the disks.

• Automatic protection of the device in case of overheating and in case of dangerous overload.

• Brush wear control system for engine brush assembly.

• The ability to use the tool as a grinder.

Check the attachment of the vacuum cleaner to remove dust, as well as the compatibility of the diameters of the existing vacuum cleaner and chaser, as sometimes an adapter may be required.

Evaluate the method of adjusting the width and depth of the gating, sometimes this requires additional tools, and sometimes they are not needed. A graded scale on the instrument case itself is also useful.

Pay attention to the presence or absence of automatic stabilization to reduce vibration during operation, as well as the function of protection against accidental starting.

Finally, not with each chaser can be supplied a tool to eliminate the middle remaining between the furrows when cutting wide chasers. Sometimes you have to buy the missing tools.
