How to place lights on the ceiling

One of the stages of repairs in an apartment or a private house is the decoration of the ceiling. Before installing the ceiling, it is necessary to determine the location of the fixtures. The main task in this case is to provide the desired level of illumination in each of the rooms, while satisfying your wishes regarding their placement. In this article, we will consider the question of how to arrange lamps on the ceiling.

Luminaire layouts

The options for the location of the fixtures, first of all, depend on their type. There are standard spotlights built-in type, as well as decorative, differing in material and version.

A decorative lamp, like a chandelier, scatters the light evenly around the surface. Conventional built-in lamps, as a rule, scatter a directed beam of light, they can be of a non-rotary type or a rotary one, which allows you to direct a beam of light in the desired area of the room.

That is, first of all, it is necessary to select the desired type of fixtures, and then, taking into account their characteristics, in particular power and luminous flux of lamps, draw up a layout of the fixtures.

There are many different layouts of fixtures. In this case, there are no special restrictions - there is no need to strictly observe certain schemes. The main task, as mentioned above, is to ensure the desired level of illumination in the room, while arranging the lamps so that they fit into the interior design of a room.

We give examples of the location of the fixtures in order to have an idea of how to position the fixtures.

The layout of the fixtures on the ceiling

You can also arrange the fixtures in an original way - it all depends on your imagination. Here are some more options for placing fixtures:

The layout of the fixtures on the ceiling

Above are options for the location of lamps with a chandelier in the center, which, as a rule, is the main source of light in the room. In this case, spotlights perform two functions.

They are an additional source of lighting and allow you to provide illumination of the entire area of the room, directing the light flux to those places where the main chandelier does not light. At the same time, spotlights can be used as an independent source of illumination in a room, providing less intense light when high brightness is not required.

In small rooms, or in rooms where high brightness of light is not required, for example, in a bedroom, you can arrange spotlights without a chandelier, using the above schemes, or one of the following options:

Ceiling lamp options

If you wish, you can do without installing a chandelier in any room, for example, by choosing decorative lamps. By installing a sufficient number of fixtures, you can provide the desired brightness in a particular room.

In large rooms, as well as in studio apartments, several chandeliers are used, which are installed in those places where it is necessary to provide brighter lighting. For example, above the dining table and in the workplace area.

Spotlights can be placed in different patterns, for each area of the room you can choose the appropriate option. The main thing is that these schemes are combined and provide a sufficient level of illumination.

Each case is individual and the same scheme may be relevant for one apartment, but will be unacceptable for another. You should always consider the interior design of the room, the location of furniture and other interior elements, personal wishes regarding the placement of lamps.

General recommendations for the placement of fixtures

We give general recommendations regarding the placement of fixtures:

  • the chandelier must be placed strictly in the center of the room, but the possibility of its connection and mounting should be taken into account. For example, if the cable for connecting the chandelier will be laid in the emptiness of the ceiling, then you should install the chandelier under the closest emptiness of the plate closest to the center;

  • if the room is large and installation of two chandeliers and more chandeliers is required, then they should be arranged in such a way that each of the chandeliers is located symmetrically relative to the walls and at the same distance from each other;

  • An important criterion is the number of lamps in the chandelier. It is necessary to choose a chandelier so that it provides the desired level of illumination in the room. The same goes for the total number of spotlights. The diagrams give an example of the location of the fixtures, and their number is selected individually for each room, depending on its size;

  • if the chandelier will not be mounted in the room, then to ensure sufficient illumination it is recommended to place spotlights with the calculation of one lamp per 1.5-2 square meters. m premises;

  • when arranging the fixtures, the symmetry of their placement should be observed, the slightest discrepancies will be noticeable, which is undesirable; - the minimum distance of the lamp to the wall is 20 cm;

  • when placing fixtures on a stretch ceiling, it should be borne in mind that this type of coating will deform from the heating of the lamp lamps. In this case, you can use halogen lamps and incandescent lamps, but only low power, not more than 35 watts. Therefore, it is better to give preference to LED and compact fluorescent lamps, which do not heat up much and you can choose the lamp of the required brightness. In any case, when choosing the amount of power of a particular type of fixtures, the recommendations of the manufacturer of the ceiling coating should be taken into account in order to avoid problems in the future.
