How to fix a power outlet

How to fix the outlet?Often there are situations when you plug into an electrical outlet, and you hear crackling from it, smoke is coming in or the outlet is just very loose. In such cases, repairs are needed. If you want to do this yourself, you will need: a flat and Phillips screwdriver, pliers, electrical tape and indicator.

Before starting any work, it is necessary to turn off all the machines, switches on the meter (they should have the inscriptions "ON" "OFF", or "ON" "OFF", switch to "OFF" "OFF") and unscrew all the fuses, this it must be done very carefully so that no live parts can rush about. As soon as we all turn off the power, we need to check on the outlet that we will repair, the presence of voltage, using the indicator.

As soon as we make sure that there is no voltage, we can proceed with the repair. To begin, remove the cover of the outlet by unscrewing the bolt for this, most often it is in the middle of the outlet. And we look at the state of the contacts, they should be the color of copper, should not be green (oxidized copper), black or gray (the result of poor contact).

How to fix the outlet? If the contacts are not copper in color, they must be cleaned with a file or sandpaper. If through holes appear on the contact itself, or the metal is thinner in some places, the outlet must be replaced.

The plug should be firmly inserted into the socket; if this is not the case, bend the contacts to each other (which includes one contact from the plug). After that, check the reliability of connecting the wires to the outlet, pull them slightly, they should not pop out, fall out and be securely screwed. If this is not the case, tighten the contacts with a screwdriver. If bare wires that are suitable for the outlet are visible, they must be insulated with electrical tape.

If the entire outlet staggers, you need to tighten the installation bolts, which are located horizontally from the right and the left of the outlet vertically in the middle. Tighten them so that the socket does not stagger.

Before carrying out work, it is necessary to warn everyone who is in the house or apartment to avoid accidentally applying voltage to other people, if this is not possible, you need to hang a sign on the machine that is off, that repair work is underway.

What to do if the socket constantly drops out? You jerk a little more and immediately falls out. This is dangerous. There are bare wires there. I tried to tighten the spacers on the outlet, put cardboard in the hole, nothing helps. It’s just that the hole for the outlet is very large, one wall has crumbled and it’s impossible to clamp it normally. Calling an electrician to repair one outlet is somehow inconvenient. I’m doing everything in the repair house myself. And here is such a problem.

To prevent the electrical outlet from falling out of the wall, buy a plastic installation box for the outlet (the so-called “socket box”) and fix it in the wall with alabaster or gypsum. If the hole in the wall is too large, you can cover part of the hole with cement. Try to have the installation box after hardening of the gypsum to stand in one plane with the wall surface. Then put the socket itself in this box by securing the tabs of the socket with screws.

I confirm. Install a plastic socket (push it into the wall) - the sockets or the switch will fix tightly.

    Proven in practice! smile

And you can fix the undersocket with mounting foam, I fixed everything at home like that, I can’t tear it off with my teeth.

The one who does not do anything is not mistaken!

Vasily Babkov, when the finishing of the walls has already been done, the wallpaper is glued, it is not advisable to change the undergrowth. You wrote that you made cardboard, you can try to put something thicker. For example, small wooden slivers or pieces of plastic. In general, experiment and be sure to succeed. And to blow out the mounting foam as recommended, I would not recommend it. If there is a need to tighten the contacts or replace the outlet, then the foam will create additional inconvenience, and when re-fixing the outlet again blow out the foam? And if you choose the optimal linings for the struts, the socket will not stagger and fall out, and if necessary, replace or revise it will not be difficult to dismantle it and then install it.

Such a situation, the socket was torn out or broken I don’t know, in general there are 2 cores of a wire going to the place from the socket, a large cross-section wire, aluminum, as I understand it, is very thick and not elastic. One core is broken off and it turns out that the wiring does not reach the socket from the outlet, but there such small things are fixed on the wires themselves, they resemble a tee from the water supply, as I understand this is the junction of 1 piece of wiring with 2 pieces! So the question is exactly what: I want to fix it, and I don’t know whether it is necessary to look for the same wire with the same cross section, because in my opinion it is very practical! Or can it be changed from this connecting element?
