Replacing wiring with copper

Replacing wiring with copper

If you regularly lose contact in sockets, and electrical appliances cannot be turned on at the same time, as "Knocks out" the machine and when replacing the chandelier, the wires break easily, like matches, which means it's time to change the wiring. Prices for a service such asreplacement wiring in the apartment in commercial companies, for example Gorkomservis, make up about 600 rubles per sq.m. Whether it is expensive or cheap is up to you. Let's look at ways to save money do it yourself.

In almost all houses of the old construction and in most modern houses, the electrical wiring is mounted with aluminum wires in a single insulation. The section of this wiring is most often calculated based on a consumption rate of 1-2 kW. power, which is quite normal for the sixties of the last century, but our contemporaries consume much more.

In the event of a failure of the “automatic devices” in the apartment panel, the insulation of the aluminum wires begins to rapidly break down. And this is a direct road to a short circuit. In addition, any leakage, any damping negatively affects the aluminum wires. It becomes brittle and brittle. The same thing happens over time. Based on this, the life of aluminum wiring is considered to be no more than 15-20 years.

Wiring replacement can be done independently, subject to safety precautions and basic knowledge. The main thing is accuracy and, of course, not to carry out work under stress.

To replace the wiring when repairing an apartment you need:

1. an apartment plan with the desired distribution of connection points;

2. new electric cable;

3. switches and sockets;

4. automatic machines;

5. punch and a long drill to it;

6. junction boxes;

7. gypsum putty;

8. pliers, side cutters and screwdrivers;

9. warning lamp or multimeter;

10. powerful soldering iron;

11. phase indicator;

12. insulating caps and tape with rag insulation;

13. installation boxes for sockets and switches.

If at least one of the above is not familiar to you, then you should not do the replacement yourself.

We start with the plan of the apartment - on it we mark out the location of the switches and sockets. Then we consider the load: add up the approximate power consumption of electrical appliances in the entire apartment plus 100 watts. for each light source. We divide the result by 220 and get the current value, the wiring should be calculated on it.

According to the finished plan, the required amount of cable, sockets and other things are calculated. For each switch and socket, 1 installation box is taken.

Having bought all the necessary materials in the store, you can get to work. First, turn off the old wiring by turning off packet switch in the dashboard.

We begin to replace the wiring from the back room. Find the junction box, its cover is usually visible in the wall. Having opened the cover, in the bundle of wires find the introductory one, after you cut and insulate it, you can turn on the electricity again.

If possible, remove all old wiring. If this is not possible, then the wires can simply be cut. After that, you can lay new wiring. Open commissures and twisting wires leave unacceptable. They must be in junction boxes, moreover, carefully insulated.

Note that connecting wiring to the switchboard and installing circuit breakers is the job of a professional electrician. And do not try to do it yourself.

    What kind of TV is 200-300 watts?

    Do wires on high-voltage power lines also change every 15-20 years?

    But what about planes and aluminum pans of the 70s, still flying? =))

    I would very much like to learn in more detail which particular types of wires should be used and why, how to choose the right section of the wire, how to connect the wires to the wiring accessories. In general, the title of the article should justify itself.

    Could you explain how to connect the wiring to the electric meter (the house has an old meter in the stairwell) right in the apartment, the sub-hook to the old wire? or lead a new wire to the meter?

    Maksim,
    And what is your wire from the meter to the apartment? The answer to this question will be the answer to yours.
    And to lead a new wire from the meter, you still have to using your electrician, because seals on the counter you do not have the right to tear.

    Hello. I have a question. Repair in the kitchen. We decided to immediately change all the aluminum wiring in the kitchen to copper. The electrician could not find where the old wires lead, in fact, everything turned out to be confusing. We decided to re-lay the copper wires and bring them to the counter in the entrance and put the new machine in the kitchen. And then they could either pull out the old wires from the kitchen ... although they couldn’t find where they were going .. or walled them up in the walls .. An electrician suggested putting the power wire from the front door into the cable channel to the counter at the level .. well, it’s about a person’s head. Not at the ceiling 10 cm, but lower. Afraid of getting into the wires in the wall ..

    Tell me, you can lead wires from the apartment to the meter in the cable channel .. This is such a white plastic channel, all kinds of wires from the phone and the Internet are hidden in our house. Of course, the power cable will lie alone in such a channel. The husband is worried that such a laying in the porch is dangerous and unacceptable and will be fined .. someone ...

    Helena, can. Drive in the cable channel. No one will fine you. Electricians must be trusted! Old wires can leave in the walls. It is not necessary to get them from there.

    Victor, if everyone starts to conduct what he wants and how he wants to go up the porch, then the entrances will turn into existing electrical installations, trash, sewers, etc.
    there is an NTD, PUE, PPB, etc. for this case. another moment is an electrician, it is clear that questions arose about his professionalism. there are devices for finding hidden wiring. Yes, and about the new cable, he apparently did not convince once the word "decided" sounds. Helena! As a rule, the wiring changes completely together with the protection and switching devices of the entire apartment. to exclude the question of what “they can fine” order a project. the project will be coordinated with all organizations and the question itself will disappear. if the question is in finances, then order the project for the part that relates to the part from the meter to the apartment. in the apartment, install a cupboard in which you place your circuit breaker on the kitchen lighting and a combination machine for the outlet group (AVDT). if you want to change the wiring and then you will have the opportunity to place the protection devices in this cabinet.

    And in the project it will be written - to lay such and such a cable, such and such a section in the cable channel. So why do we need such a project? And this designer will never even appear at the facility.And who, interestingly, will fine for the lack of a project? Do we have organizations that systematically check their apartment owners? 90% of the work on replacing wiring is done without projects and it’s good if it’s by electricians, but mainly by Tajiks and Turkmens with a wide range of activities. If there is a competent electrician and he offers some solutions, then you need to agree with him and do as he said. Of course, you need to make sure that he is actually an electrician before that :-) A project in this case should be done if there is a lot of extra money, well, or there is a persecution mania. And then suddenly fined!

    not a fact SP 31-110-2003. Tajiks with Uzbeks can simply bind to the ceiling and work. I understand that Elena, the woman did not just enter the page of electricians. to tell our business how to do it right, but somehow the Tajiks will do it. when the balconies glazed without permission I think other times will come soon we will start our own energy passport.

    Some strange fashion has recently gone - to write all sentences with a small letter. It's hard to read, and to understand something is even harder.

    And if on the topic of the previous comment, then women should be outraged, since there is obvious discrimination on the basis of sex. "A woman has not just entered the page of electricians" - and I know several women who in electrical engineering will give odds to any man, at least in terms of design, calculations and theory. Yes, and they can express their thoughts in writing much more clearly and more beautifully ... So there is no need to belittle anyone here. A woman is also a man! And, by the way, a woman can also be an electrician, more often, however, an electrical engineer.

    Victor! Sorry! I did not think that in addition to knowing the laws of electrical engineering, you are a sophisticated connoisseur of the subtleties of ethics. Only now it is not clear to me where "explicit discrimination on the basis of sex" is here. I just emphasized that a woman is a specialist in a different field than energy. And for sure she will give us a head start in this area. But about the power cable and how to lay it, she asks for your advice. Do not be angry. And to understand me is not difficult. In SP 31-110-2003, instructions are given for installing the cable, according to the question asked. Work must strive well, it will turn out badly.

    Oh, thank you very much Victor and Alexander !! Laughing, the husband really suffers from a persecution mania .. well, or it seems to me ..)))) Everything seems to him forever. then he will be fined, then something else ..))))))) A hundred times he thinks and thinks of him .. In the kitchen there are bare walls. In order to save money, we paved the walls ourselves, and I cracked almost all the holes in the ceilings with wires. Boxes or something .. well putty there was some kind of sand .. Husband 2 days thinking where to attach sockets and switches, quarreled with him, it almost came to a divorce, at what distance .... but under what technique .. I’m crazy almost brought ..

    Tomorrow morning an electrician will come, will pull wires in the kitchen. The day before yesterday we sent VVG wires 2.5 * 3 and 1.5 * 3 50 meters. And the cable channel is several 2 meter long bands. Well, there’s still all kinds of electric things for the future decoration of suspended ceilings ... They dragged everything home ..

    I'm afraid of myself. We still need to connect the cooking and the oven .. I am very afraid of the current, I have a brother, when he was killed by electric shock for 8 years. Until now, the hair on the skin stands on end. when the bare wires or sparks are what .. I have enough kondrat tomorrow ...

    Guys, tell me, my husband is asking, what kind of device is this for finding wires in the walls ??? I have never heard of such a thing. Tomorrow we need to be on the wall where the stove used to be, there is a socket for the stove, with it to be smart, to carry a little higher. But the worst thing is the change of wires. Today, my husband and an electrician found a tunnel in the form of a tube inside the wall, poked it with an empty hard wire, looked for a way out .. I already have a soul in the heels. I suggested pouring water there, where it will flow there and the way out ...

    No, there were no wires, it is empty. They were looking for how it would be more convenient for them to work tomorrow .. They found a way out, my husband pounded 10 centimeters, there he just got cement, closed the door.

    Oh guys. You have a great forum here .. A find for us .. I read your answers to my husband, laughed ... Cool !! I especially laughed at my husband, how he suffers from a mania of persecution! Exactly!!

    I went here ... while I drink coffee .. The electrician has not yet arrived, I have a jerk, my husband went for a rotband, forgot to buy, my husband poked holes for bolshevisty for sockets. An electrician said yesterday to buy a rotband in order to put the socket tight inside ... And it was too late, so now I ran in the morning.

    Today will be something .... I'm afraid ... They are still with her husband hands, right fingers thrown there in the holes with wires .. They feel where the holes go ...

    I will write later what and how with us ...

    Well, we had wires in the kitchen, and the old ones were pulled out. They pierced through the wall and led into the vestibule (common for 2 apartments ..) .. through the vestibule brought to the electricity meter. In the cable channel white. So far, they have brought to the machines and that's all for today. Tomorrow I will negotiate with Zheu about turning off the electricity in the whole house. To bring the wire and put another machine in the switchboard on our floor. Now, while they were doing there, my eye began to twitch. She sat and ate sweets ... to calm down. Creepy sounds from the punch of it. There are still hanging wires from the sockets themselves to put in these sockets .. On the wall where the hob has not yet been made sockets nearby .. we are waiting for another master - the tiler in the morning tomorrow. We will find a solution where to put the sockets in the tile ... we also ripped off the old tile, the bare, tattered walls. The husband here the second day crawls with drawings, measures everything, measures .. calculates the best .. And he is afraid that he will be fined for something ..)))))

    Guys, where have you gone ?? I really need your help.

    Here, look. The electrician brought the wires to the switchboard, the wire brought into it and he is lying there, not connected and we don’t have another machine there.

    I went to Zheu yesterday, they refused me to turn off the common house switch, or whatever it was ... Well, it is necessary that the electricity be turned off. An electrician needs to work there even with a ground wire. I don’t know what to do. Now I wrote the phones of the city power station, I wanted to call. Clarify what and how. Our kitchen is so without electricity.

    Good day to all! To begin with, I would like to say about the power of electrical appliances - televisions come in from 50 W and more (the larger the diagonal - the more power, at home SANYO 29 "- 75 W, and the neighbors SAMSUNG 29" - 150 W).
    At the expense of old wires - it is clear that everything has its own service life. Therefore, as the article says correctly, the capacities increase, and the wiring is the same. As for the replacement of wiring with copper, it is quite natural - in all respects (except for the price) it is better.
    Work on replacing the wiring must be done by qualified specialists or specializing organizations, otherwise you can make yourself unnecessary problems for a long time (after all, wiring is not done for 1 day).
    I wanted to clarify Elena’s question about a device for detecting hidden electrical wiring. It is used just in order not to screw up when laying new wiring where there is already an old one. At the expense of information about such devices - try searching the Internet, there you will find their types, description and application.
    Regarding the installation of automatic machines, it is better to install them in the apartment, and from the shield, bring one cable to the entire apartment.
    At the expense of the ground wire - it can be connected to ground without disconnecting the general switch (though if there is such grounding in your house).
    And if you need to do this quickly - call the emergency gang and for a fee they will connect you. The main thing is that the rest of the wiring from the shield should be laid and disconnected.
